Industrial Wind Turbines
How close is too close to homes?
Turbine makers vary in what they consider to be acceptable setbacks to homes. For safety, G.E. warns that a distance of 1,300 feet is the minimum. To minimize annoyance from moving shadows and noise, another turbine maker says at least 1,640 foot setbacks are required. A developer in Kansas just settled a court suit by agreeing to setbacks of 2,000 feet. In Canada, the former dean of medicine at the University of Western Ontario has called for nearly 5,000 foot setbacks as a “moral obligation” to protect health. What does Everpower want? About 1,000 feet. That’s too close to homes.
